Shooting CLD’s Eid Collection
Even though I call myself a Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer, I started out as a Creative Portrait Photographer. I tend go back to the stomping ground in the most epic way, by dabbling in FASHION! And I'm proud to say, Trinidadian Fashion.
I have known Charu Lochan Dass, famously known as the Indian born, Trinidad based fashion designer of CLD for over a year. She has been in the industry for over a decade, putting Trinidad and Tobago on the map in terms of fashion. She is an expert in creating modern, elegant pieces with the influence of her Indian heritage.
If it’s one thing I love about my friendship with Charu, is the ability to tell her about my insane photoshoot concepts and she helping me out to execute them. I was super elated when she challenged myself and Miss World Trinidad and Tobago representative, Aché Abrahams to shoot her CLD Eid Collection 2022 in one day, scratch that not one day, but in 45 minutes!
It all started a couple days before the photoshoot, I was telling Charu about an idea I had to do a fashion type shoot at a sandpit. I love mixing opposite things, for example this, shooting a beautiful outfit in a sandy, area with trucks and tractors in the background. I didn’t know how I was going to access such location but as usual, Charu’s husband, always comes to the rescue. He hooked me up with a private quarry site to do a photoshoot! Immediately, we mood board, decided on an outfit, organized times etc.
On shoot day at Charu's boutique, right before we were about to leave to go to the quarry, Charu was like "let's just shoot the entire collection." Not going to lie, I was worried about the time, because our photoshoot was going to happen at golden hour and well golden hour is typically 45 minutes! So, Aché and I had to shoot 5 looks in about 45 minutes. And indeed we did!
This has been one of my top 5 sessions for 2022. I love every single photo and the day I had finished editing the photos, I was proud of myself.
Doin fashion photography, something different from my usual weddings and lifestyle gigs, sparked my creative side again. It's a world that's hard to put into words, making me think outside the box. Venturing into fashion doesn't just add flair to my portfolio; it brings energy to how I work with every client, encouraging them to dream big and think outside the box.
