How it all began
I'm a girl who always needs to be doing something. It was March 2021 and I think Trinidad was in its second Covid Lockdown, and I decided to use a second hand camera to learn photography. The lockdown provided the perfect backdrop to absorb knowledge from YouTube, courses by renowned photographers, and practice with my mom's plants as subjects around the house.
While plants offered a plethora of photographic opportunities, I yearned to capture moments with people. Unfortunately, strict restrictions meant I couldn't photograph friends. Undeterred, I turned the lens on myself, delving into the world of "self-portraits." Drawing inspiration from Pinterest, I became a model in front of my own camera, experimenting with lighting, composition, and every technical aspect of photography.
Week after week, I showed up, posing with flowers, sticking glitter on my face, and documenting my journey on Instagram just for the joy of it. Little did I know that my frequent posts would catch the attention of a family in October. They reached out, asking me to shoot a family session. Doubt and hesitation crept in, but with a supportive pep talk from my boyfriend, I took the leap.
Fast forward two years, and photography had transformed from a lockdown hobby to a burning passion. I went from questioning my abilities to having a growing clientele, capturing the special moments in the lives of amazing people. Each click of the shutter painted a picture of my journey – from self-portraits in isolation to becoming the storyteller of others' cherished memories. In the end, the girl who always needed to be doing something found her true calling in the enchanting world of photography.
